KARACHI:
Pakistan was in as well as out of gray FATF list three times since 2008. In 2010, Pakistan succeeded in obtaining out of grey list but was again put on it again in 2012 for three years until 2015. Then in In June 2018 we were again Greylisted by the FATF until 2022, expected to removed after on-point cleaning from their monitoring team in October.
Whatever politics and intrigue of India, who were definitely involved in cross-border terror financing, fact remains what we as a state have failed take effective steps to curb our supposed involvement in cause. The simple formulation of laws without the desire to implement them only undermined the credibility of the state. Individuals may have won, but Pakistan facing its worst economic crisis ever result. Since 1958, we have been looking for almost 22 IMFs. financial assistance programs, but have failed increase our revenues through direct taxation on all sources of income and instead decided to take out recurring loans to overcome the growing deficit. Elite capture continues unabated and black economywhich more than the documented economy continues enjoy tax breaks, amnesty schemes and patronage despite the threat of Pakistan default.
How responsible state we failed when Zia gave safe haven to extremists and terrorists for “jihad” and fight US proxy war. We can’t shift the blame on United States because we have willingly allowed ourselves to be used and allowed our sovereignty to be compromised by allowing private militias to exist and operate on our territory. It’s abuse by the few powerful the elements must cease, otherwise despair may drive masses to force changes that will bring chaos, anarchy and revolution.
