HBO’s opulent drama of 19th-century New York will return this fall as The Gilded Age Season 4 officially premieres on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The new season, consisting of eight episodes, will air weekly at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available for streaming on Max.
The upcoming installment picks up in the mid-1880s, navigating the fallout of a Season 3 finale that left the Russell family’s domestic life in ruins despite their overwhelming social success. While Bertha Russell achieved her ultimate ambition by securing a title for her daughter, the victory came at a steep cost to her marriage and her relationship with her children.

The Fracture of the Russell Dynasty
The central conflict of Season 4 focuses on the deteriorating bond between Bertha and George Russell. Although George survived the assassination attempt that marked the penultimate episode of the previous season, the experience has fundamentally altered his perspective on Bertha’s social maneuvering. The verified release schedule and early teasers suggest that George’s resentment stems largely from the arranged marriage of their daughter, Gladys.
Gladys enters the new season as the Duchess of Buckingham, following her marriage to Hector, the Duke. However, the union—brokered by Bertha to secure the family’s standing—has created a rift, with George threatening divorce in the wake of Bertha’s transparency regarding the deal. While the Russells maintain their public facade as the leaders of “New Money” society, the internal stability of their household has reached a breaking point.
Meanwhile, Larry Russell and Marian Brook are attempting to navigate their own reconnection. After the hurdles of the previous season, the pair are once again pursuing a relationship, though they must do so under the watchful eyes of the van Rhijn and Russell houses.
New Historical Figures and Cast Additions
As the series moves further into the 1880s, the political landscape of New York and Washington D.C. becomes more prominent. Jim Gaffigan joins the cast this season as President Grover Cleveland, signaling a shift toward the intersection of high society and federal power. Historical titan John D. Rockefeller will also appear, portrayed by Neal Huff.
Other major casting additions for Season 4 include:
- Dennis Haysbert: Joining as Dr. Reginald Harris.
- Elizabeth Marvel: Confirmed in an undisclosed role.
- Phylicia Rashad and Bill Camp: Both are set to appear as the series expands its look at the diverse power structures of the era.

In the van Rhijn household, Agnes is expected to seize new opportunities to reclaim the social standing she felt was slipping in previous years. As the “Old 400” continues to clash with the rising industrialist class, the lines between traditional status and raw financial power continue to blur.
The eight-episode run will conclude in late December, continuing the series’ tradition of high-stakes social warfare set against the backdrop of the architectural and cultural transformation of New York City.
