The Cricket Regulator has formally charged England fast bowler Brydon Carse following an incident outside a Derby nightclub in August. The charge, announced on October 2, 2026, alleges a breach of ECB Regulation 3.2, which covers conduct that may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or bring the game into disrepute.
The disciplinary action stems from an event in the early hours of August 23, 2026. During the incident, Carse was briefly handcuffed and arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being de-arrested at the scene. While Derbyshire Police conducted a separate investigation into allegations of assault connected to the evening, the force officially closed that case in late September without bringing any charges.

With the police investigation concluded, the focus has shifted entirely to the sport’s internal disciplinary process. According to The Guardian, the Cricket Regulator has referred the matter to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication. The regulatory process has already coincided with a pause in his international career.
Despite being England’s leading wicket-taker during the 2025-26 Ashes tour, Carse has been omitted from the squad for the upcoming one-day tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The charges represent a significant hurdle for Carse, who had recently solidified his role as a primary pace option for England across multiple formats. The Cricket Discipline Panel will now determine what, if any, sanctions are appropriate under the professional conduct regulations. There is currently no confirmed timetable for the panel’s hearing or a final decision on potential penalties.
