Apple announced today that the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 would occur between June 5 and 9. With the announcement, Apple started accepting entries for the annual Swift Student Challenge. This competition asks students to develop an original coding project using the Swift Playgrounds app developed by Apple.
Apple is currently accepting submissions and will do so until April 19 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. The submission period began today. Participants are required to be at least 13 years old (in the United States) and registered as members of the Apple Developer Program to participate. Because there is also an academic requirement, all contestants must be students of some kind to participate.
The students are tasked with developing an interactive scene in an app playground that must be completed within three minutes and be capable of being experienced. The quality of the written responses explaining the project, any previous app development experiences, and the entries’ technical accomplishments will be considered in the judging process.
Winners will receive exclusive WWDC 2023 outerwear (in previous years, this was a jacket), AirPods Pro, a customized pin set, and an Apple Developer Program membership for one year. Additionally, winners will receive a customized pin set.
There will also be a process for selecting students to attend the special event Apple plans to hold at Apple Park on June 5. This will be done through a random selection process among the winners. When uploading their projects, students can participate in this selection process. The main developer lottery for the event is not affiliated with this additional lottery. There will be no provision made for travel or lodging expenses.
Apple will provide students with information regarding their application status by the close of business on Tuesday, May 9.
