Suez Canal Incident: Shipping Agency Confirms Vessel Grounded in Egypt’s Waterway.

A shipping agent (Leith Agnes) said early Thursday that the ship had run aground in Egypt’s Suez Canal, “leaving behind” at least four ships, Reuters reported.

The company added that tugboats are trying to refloat the Shen Hai Tong 23.

“Shin Hai Tong 23 ran aground in the Suez Canal at km 159 at 04:00,” Leith Agences tweeted, adding that she “left four ships from an early convoy in addition to the regular group that was supposed to enter the Suez channel around 06:00,” Reuters reports.

MarineTraffic’s ship-tracking data for Refinitiv showed that the Hong Kong-flagged vessel was unable to move near the southern end of the canal and parked at an angle near the eastern side of the canal.
