The shooting came from a single vehicle that then drove off “immediately” after the shooting, said park public relations specialist Rachel Kendziora.
Emergency personnel answered immediately and two people were taken to the hospital. Third casualty declined treatment, Kendziora said.
“Park Guard personnel and officers from the Gurney Police Department Substation responded immediately,” Kendziora said. Both Gurney police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene Sunday night, she said.
There is no “no indication that it is active shot at that time,” Lake County Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told CNN.
The park closed early in reaction to the shooting, Kendziora said.
Gurney is about an hour away drive north of Chicago.
Michael Pontrelli and his family were in the park when the shooting happened. He told CNN that he just received off Superman’s ride when he witnessed the bands of people runs away from the entrance.
“Then we (saw) a swarm of parents transport their children, so my family and I hid between these two walls waiting for admission, he said. – The cops fled in armed and accompanying all out.”
Video filmed by Pontrelli shows strong police presence outside a park.
