Russia’s Requirements Remain Unmet, Hindering Extension of Grain Deal: Turkish Foreign Minister

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the prospects for extending the grain deal are currently unclear and depend on the fulfillment of Russia’s demands.

Cavusoglu said in a statement to the Turkish NTV channel today, Wednesday: “There is no 100% guarantee that the Black Sea grain export initiative will be extended now, but serious work is underway and there are hopes for success. Our efforts and those of the United Nations continue.”

He continued: “The crux of the problem is that the deal was extended by only 60 days… It is the non-compliance (requirements) of Russia, in particular the issue of reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT system, and (providing) guarantees to banks to pay for food.”
