Moscow, May 18 – Said Vladimir Burmatov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
“We expect that next week we will adopt a whole package of amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses … which concern the imposition of very large fines for the disposal of pets, that is, for abandoned animals, up to 30 thousand rubles,” Burmatov said at a press conference in the press center of the Russia Today group. International media reports fines for animal cruelty – if it is not a criminal offense – up to 100 thousand rubles.
He added that a fine of up to 200,000 rubles will also be imposed upon the adoption of the amendments by the owners, whose pets “inadvertently” attacked and bit a person. According to Burmatov, penalties should also be imposed by those who have violated the maintenance of animals in shelters, circuses and zoos.
