The Israeli army released a video of the assassination of Islamic Jihad commander Iyad al-Hasani, whose death was announced by the movement today, Friday, in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian movement official announced that a senior leader of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Jihad Movement, was killed in the latest Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip today, Friday.

The source said that Iyad al-Hassani, who is in charge of the operational file and acting head of the military council of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the movement, was killed in an Israeli raid on a house in the western part of the Gaza Strip.

His assistant was also killed.

At the same time, a correspondent for the Israeli radio “Kan” quoted a representative of the military department that al-Hassani Khalifa Khalil al-Bakhtini, the commander of the northern region of the Gaza Strip, is participating in jihad.

In addition, medical officials confirmed that a total of two Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in an attack on an apartment located in the Al-Nasr area in the western Gaza Strip.

Al-Hasani became the sixth member of the Council to be killed by Israel this week. Musayed al-Hasani was killed in an airstrike.

jihad threat

Major General Eliezer Toledano, Commander of the Israeli Army’s Southern Command, announced yesterday Thursday that the army will continue to persecute members of the Islamic Jihad Movement after the assassination of Military Council member Ahmed Abu Dhaka. Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the movement.

An Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent reported that Abu Dhaka was killed and three others wounded when an Israeli raid targeted his house on Thursday in the town of Bani Suhaila in Khan Younis.

He also explained that Abu Dhaka was the deputy of Ali Ghali, commander of the missile unit of the Al-Quds Brigades.

Tension and escalation

The latest spiral of tension between the two sides began on May 2 after the murder of prisoner Adnan Hader in Israeli prisons after a three-month hunger strike and Israel’s refusal to hand over his body to his family. This prompted the groups to launch dozens of rockets towards the Palestinian territories.

Another round of escalation followed on May 9, when Israeli forces killed several Islamic Jihad leaders, and yesterday, the commander of a missile unit, Ali Ghali, and Abu Dhaka.

While the movement demanded an end to the killings and the handover of Hader’s body for the sake of a ceasefire, Tel Aviv refused, emphasizing that it was sticking to the ceasefire in exchange for a ceasefire.

Remarkably, Gaza has seen intermittent flare-ups between the two sides for months, if not years, while the latest round of fighting has left about 33 Palestinians dead and 110 wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
