Montana congressional candidate Mark Sweeney dies

HELENA — Montana State Senator and Congressional candidate Mark Sweeney died Friday night in his home in Philipsburg, according to his statement family.

Sweeney, 62, was the current state senator representing Philipsburg. At that time of his death was Sweeney one of three Democratic candidates running in basic for Montana new eastern constituency. Representative of his family said Sweeney died of natural causes.

Sweeney family said he was “beloved father, husband and public servant people of Montana”.

Election commissions are expected to send out primary ballots voters this week. Sweeney’s name is most likely remain on ballot because the members of the election commission had completed list of names of candidates about a month ago.

Sweeney is born in Butte but moved to Miles City with his family graduated from high school there as an infant and attended Miles Community College and Western Montana College. He earned degree in natural resource management. He spent most of of his career as a fisheries expert with State Department of Fish, wildlife and parks, work in Glendive, Libby and Anaconda.
