The Contagion of Chronic Crises in Sudan’s Capital Khartoum Spreads to Madani
Follow shoe after shoe The contagion of chronic crises in Sudan’s capital Khartoum before the war on April 15 spread south to the city of Madani, the center of Jazira state in central Sudan, and the trials and sufferings of those who escaped the heat of war shed much light on the suffering of the citizens there.
In recent days, Madani has seemed similar to the capital Khartoum in terms of a traffic crisis on the streets in the city center, especially during rush hours and sometimes into the night. The rows of cars lined up in front of gas stations also resembled scenes re-enacted from the chronic crises in Khartoum before the outbreak of the war.
Electricity, Water, and Gas Preparations Crisis
In the same context, the suffering of the residents of the city of Madani has increased due to electricity and water supply, as the city is experiencing an acute crisis in electricity and water supply in the light of the scorching summer, and suffering has increased on the shoulders of the city after it has become a major destination for a huge number of people fleeing the raging hell of war. The suffering of a civilian did not stop there, as an acute gas preparation crisis erupted, as the price of one gas cylinder on the black market exceeded 25,000 Sudanese pounds, which is equivalent to about 50 US dollars.
State Authorities’ Temporary Solutions
As a result, the island’s authorities have acknowledged the existence of a suffocating road crisis and have begun to propose temporary solutions, including opening new lanes, making some roads one-way, and keeping others. The state authorities attribute the aggravation of the crisis to the admission to the city of a large number of people arriving in the state.
Importance of Madani
Madani is one of the most important cities in central Sudan, located about 181 km south of Khartoum, and is considered one of the largest cities adjacent to the capital.
