Sussex has confirmed the signing of seamer Keith Dudgeon on a two-year contract, bolstering their bowling options ahead of their return to Division One of the County Championship. The announcement, made on October 2, 2026, secures the former Kent bowler through the end of the 2028 season.
The move follows a period of significant transition at Hove. Just 24 hours prior to Dudgeon’s arrival, Sussex confirmed the departures of five players, including opening batter Daniel Hughes and Harrison Ward. Dudgeon’s recruitment appears to be a central part of the club’s strategy to solidify its squad under a changing leadership structure, with Paul Farbrace currently transitioning into a part-time role as Director of Cricket.

Dudgeon arrives at Sussex following a productive two-year stint with Kent. During the 2026 season, he was a mainstay of the Kent attack, taking 42 first-class wickets in 13 matches at an average of 32.09. His reliability in the longest format has been a hallmark of his recent career, which now includes 281 first-class wickets at an impressive overall average of 26.96.
His breakthrough in English domestic cricket was marked by a standout debut for Kent against Northamptonshire in 2025, where he recorded career-best figures of 7 for 36. Sussex will look for similar impact as they navigate the higher standard of Division One cricket next year.
The addition of Dudgeon provides Sussex with an experienced seam option to lead the attack. While the club has seen several departures this week, Dudgeon’s signing indicates a focus on proven wicket-takers who can handle heavy workloads. His familiarity with the domestic circuit and recent form suggests he will be expected to play a prominent role in the starting XI immediately upon the commencement of the 2027 campaign.
