ISLAMABAD: Former US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq and UN Zalmay Khalilzad on Tuesday warned Pakistan government against going to extremes step against former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan.
IN series of tweets, Zalmay Khalilzad said that tThere are indications that the Pakistan parliament, which is under the control of the coalition government, may well ask the Supreme Court to strip Imran Khan of his candidacy for elections and even ban PTI in V next a few days.
” government apparently decided set up Imran Khan as Enemy #1 of state. Such steps will only exacerbate Pakistan’s triple crisis: a political, economic and security crisis. Already some countries suspended the planned investments,” he said.
“IMF support remains doubtful. If steps said double place, international support for #Pakistan will decline further. Political polarization and violence are likely to intensify,” he said. added.
“I hope Pakistani political leaders rise over destructive petty politics which undermine national interest. If not, I hope the Supreme Court says no to use in games that undermine the interests of the nation. I become more and more concerned about Pakistan,” the American leader concluded.
