With CM elections on agenda, Punjab Assembly session begins

LAHORE: All eyes there is now on Punjab Assembly as decisive session of provincial assembly started late of almost four hours on Saturday with elections of but new main minister on agenda after Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar accepted his resignation of Usman Buzdar, Radio Pakistan reported.

Candidates for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab will present their nomination papers today. As directed by the PA secretariat, guests are not allowed. with members of provincial assembly.

Also, no member will be allowed to take him/her mobile phone in the room of assembly hall, and all female members of the congregation will hand over their handbags to security personnel.

The Secretariat further directed that all MPAs should bring along their CNIC and assembly card on day of vote.

Meanwhile, Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti explained that only schedule will be released today for elections of Main minister and this up to the speaker to decide about the day of vote.

Speaker has the right in in this regard and will final call in whether there will be a vote tomorrow or on Monday, Bhatti said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Hamza Shahbaz of PML-N has become a strong candidate to secure confidence after support of Jahangir Khan Tarin group after the leaders’ meeting of two sides in London.

Elections

After the nomination papers for chief ministers office submitted and the screening process is completed, the candidate who provides votes of majority of in total membership of the meeting will be declared the main minister.

But if no candidate receives votes of majority in in first poll, the speaker conducts second voting between candidates who provide two highest numbers of votes in in first survey.

The speaker then announces the candidate who provides most of votes of members present as leader minister.

In case during second in the event of a tie, the speaker conducts further polls between them until one of provided by most of votes of members present and voting.
