US Representatives Consider Negotiations with Biden Administration to Increase Debt Ceiling

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy announced that US President Joe Biden’s representatives and Republicans in Congress will agree to raise the national debt ceiling to prevent defaults in the country until June 5.

McCarthy expressed his confidence on the issue in an interview with reporters in Congress today, Saturday, answering the question of whether the two sides were able to reach an agreement by that date, in the affirmative.

The speaker emphasized that there is progress in consultations on the debt ceiling, but “some details still need to be worked out” in relation to the final agreements.

According to McCarthy, “the parties are now closer (to an agreement) than ever before.”

He also pointed out that if an agreement is reached, the House of Representatives may consider the relevant bill to raise the debt ceiling as early as Tuesday.

In turn, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Friday that the US may default on June 5 next year, and not June 1, as previously thought.

The US administration has been urging Congress in recent months to raise the national debt ceiling, and for their part, Republicans, who make up the majority in the House of Representatives, have agreed to raise the national debt ceiling, but they are subject to significant reductions. in budget spending.
