Ukrainian President Praises Field Successes and Ridicules Moscow’s Response
Successes in Eastern Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday praised the field successes of his forces near the town of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine and ridiculed Moscow’s response, which announced it had repelled large-scale attacks.
“We see how hysterically Russia reacts to all our successes in this sector, to all the sites that we control … Moscow knows that Ukraine will win,” Zelensky said in a video message.
Commander of the Ukrainian ground forces Oleksandr Sersky said today that his country’s forces are continuing their offensive in the Bakhmut area and confirmed that his troops managed to destroy the Russian position near the city.
Russian Response
For its part, Russia on Monday confirmed that it had repelled a massive attack in eastern and southern Ukraine, noting that it had inflicted heavy losses on Ukrainians in manpower and equipment.
Confessions of a Wagnerian Commander
On Monday, the commander of the Russian Wagner group admitted that Kyiv forces had recaptured part of the village of Berkhovka north of Bakhmut.
It is noteworthy that the fighting that has taken place in the city of Bakhmut over the past months has revealed major disagreements between the Wagner commander and the Russian headquarters, shedding light on the decline in relations between Prigogine and the military leadership in Moscow, which he has repeatedly described as treacherous and inactive.
He also accused him of withholding arms and ammunition from his troops, which inflicted heavy losses on him in Ukraine. He also recently warned of a major revolution in Russia if this approach continues.
