Ukrainian Drone Attacks on Russia

Ukrainian Drone Attacks on Russia

Introduction

Over the past few months, Ukrainian drone attacks on areas deep inside Russia have become more frequent.

And the new Russian Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that Moscow had thwarted a Ukrainian attack with a drone near the capital.

It also added that the drone was intercepted and crashed near the residential area of Putilkovo near the capital, and that this did not lead to human or material losses, according to Reuters.

Targeting a military airfield

This comes after the ministry announced earlier on Saturday that a Ukrainian march had fired on a military airport in the Novgorod region, causing fire and damage to a military aircraft.

The report said that no one was injured as a result of the attack, the fire was quickly extinguished, adding that “as a result of the terrorist attack in the area of the military airport, a fire broke out on the platform, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters. The aircraft was damaged.”

Novgorod is located northwest of Moscow, hundreds of kilometers from Russia’s border with Ukraine.

Landing march over Belgorod

On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry also said in a separate statement that a Ukrainian drone had been shot down over the Belgorod region, which is on the border with Ukraine, according to local news agencies.

So far, the incident has not led to human casualties and material losses.

Destroy 25 marches

Notably, on Friday, a Ukrainian drone crashed into a building in central Moscow after it was shot down by a Russian air defense system, disrupting air traffic at all civilian airports in the Russian capital.

On Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that dozens of marches were shot down in different regions.

Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that air defense systems intercepted 8 Himars missiles and destroyed 25 marches belonging to Ukrainian forces.

He also added in a press statement: “Air defense systems destroyed 25 Ukrainian marches in the settlements of Kremnaya, Robezhnaya and Zolotarevka of the Luhansk People’s Republic, the settlements of Trudovskoe and Gorlovka of the Donetsk People’s Republic, as well as in the settlements of Chapaevka and Ocherevataya in the Zporozhye region.

Cheaper

Notably, the use of drones has increased recently, especially after the failure of a counterattack launched by Ukrainian forces earlier this summer to retake their lands from Russian forces.

Kyiv usually resorts to these marches because it is cheaper than planes or missiles and can easily penetrate Russian territory, especially across borders.

Similarly, it is difficult for Russian aircraft or air defense systems to track them, especially since they can fly at low altitudes.

These marches have appeared even in the heart of the capital, Moscow, threatening secret facilities, as the Kremlin had previously announced!
