RAWALPINDI: President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented the order of Union medal on Main of Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwain recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion of bilateral relations”, ISPR, military media affairs wing said on Wednesday.
The medal is second highest award given by the UAE senior officials of friendly countries.
According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army commander, who is on visit to the UAE is called on the President of the Emirates and discussed with it matters of mutual interest, bilateral defense and security cooperation and regional security situation in Near East.
“The leaders agreed that Pakistan and the UAE share a great history of cordial relationships and deep rooted spirit of a brotherhood that develops into a strong partnership,” ISPR said in a statement.
According to ISPR, other recipients of Order of union includes former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, Bahraini Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, British Prince Philip, King of the Netherlands Prince Willem-Alexander, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
As for Gen Bajwa, he was previously awarded a medal of Supremacy of Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, Order of Bahrain (first class) award prime minister of Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain, Order of Jordan of King Abdullah II Military Merit Medal for Commonwealth in Salvation and writing of Gratitude of Federation of Mountaineering of Russia envoy of Russia during a visit to Pakistan in December 2018 and the Turkish Legion of Merit during a visit to Turkey in 2017,” ISPR said in a statement.
