Donald Trump paid Fined $110,000 after being held in disrespect from a New York judge. He has not submitted yet more over a dozen affidavits today to refute the contempt finding, but the source with its legal team confirmed to CBS News that they intend to do so.
Trump was held in disrespect April 25 after non-compliance with subpoena demanding that he turn over documents to investigators leading a protracted civil financial fraud investigation for New York Attorney General Letitia James. The subpoena requested documents related to Trump’s personal finances, as well as information related to financing of several properties. Trump was fined $10,000 a day through May 6. of his last attempt to satisfy the demands of Judge Arthur Engoron.
In response to a statement on May 6, Engoron canceled the fine and suspended the contempt case, but said he was still unhappy. with Trump’s explanation of how he and his lawyers managed to find zero documents that match with subpoena.
Engoron gave Trump until May 20 to file a long list of additional affidavit detailing the search for his lawyers for records and electronic devices, and explanations of the Trump Organization’s document retention and destruction policies. Trump and his company were also required cooperate with A long-delayed court ordered a third party to investigate party the company set a goal with sorting by years of corporate records. The company completed its opening on Thursday, the same day Trump’s payment was delivered.
After Trump team testifies under oath, Engoron will decide whether they satisfy terms of subpoena for which Trump held in contempt. If they are not satisfactory, the contempt decision could be reinstated retroactively to May 7, meaning Trump would owe an additional $130,000.
James’ office requested documents and data from a specific file locations and personnel in The Trump Organization, but it also noted that Trump failed turn over several phones he used. In an affidavit dated May 6, Trump said he did not know the whereabouts. of those phones, including the Samsung he used in the White House, which he says “was taken from me at one point when I was president.”
Trump said in statement dated 6 May that he currently has two phones, the iPhone “which I had for several years and for my personal use”and new phone is used exclusively for accommodation in social media network it has a license agreement with.
Trump and two of his childrenDonald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump were ordered on from February 17 to appear for testimony in James’ lengthy civil fraud investigation. They have appealed the summons and are awaiting decision on that appeal.

Two lawyers from James office remain assigned to a separate District Attorney for Manhattan criminal probe of Trump and his company for which special grand jury just expired.
This investigation led in from July 2021 to criminal fraud and tax evasion accusations against The Trump Organization and its CFO Allen Weisselberg. They filed for dismissal in February, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is expected to respond to this petition this month.

At the Pomeranian resignation letterwhich was published in In The New York Times, Pomeranz wrote that Vance “came to the conclusion that the facts required prosecution” but that Bragg “achieved decision … do not search criminal accusations at present.
Bragg said in statement dated 7 April stating that criminal investigation “ongoing” and his investigators and prosecutors “exploring evidence that has not previously been examined.”
