Former President Donald Trump praised “courage and strength” of Jeannie Thomas at a rally on Saturday, a few days after his wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas met with to congressional investigators about her attempts to overturn results of elections 2020.
In four-and-half hour meeting with investigators on On Thursday, Thomas discussed her marriage with conservative justiceasserting in opening statement obtained by CNN that she “didn’t say with him at all about the details of my volunteer campaign activities.”
Thomas, who attended Trump’s “Stop theft” rally on January 6, 2021 landed on radar of House select committee investigating attack on US Capitol after text messaging she with then head of the White House of employee Mark Meadows on allegations of election fraud that emerged during the ongoing congressional investigation.
Thomas had “serious concerns about fraud and violations in elections 2020. And, as she told the Committee, her minimum and main activities were focused on ensuring that reports of fraud and violations were investigated,” her lawyer Mark Paoletta said after her testimony behind closed doors.
During campaign appearance in Michigan, Trump said Thomas told the House of Representatives panel “She still believes that the 2020 elections were stolenpraising her for “not giving in under pressure”.
“You know Jeannie Thomas? in former The President questioned the audience. She didn’t say, “Oh, I would like Keep out. Of course, it was a wonderful election.” It was fake and stolen elections. She did not wait, sit and say: “Well, let me give you may have a different answer than [what] I told for in last two years.'”
“No, no,” Trump continued, “she didn’t give in under pressure. like so many others who are weak people and stupid people… She said what she thought, said what she believed in”.
Thomas, who previously criticized the January 6 House investigation, has long been a notable phenomenon in conservative activism — even became a constant annoyance to some Trump White House officials when she tried to install friends and allies in senior administrative roles throughout his presidency. She and her husband visited private dinner with Trump and his wife Melania at the White House shortly after the 2018 midterm elections, although CNN previously reported that her direct communication with in former The President was rather limited outside of this meeting.
But on On Saturday, Trump praised Thomas as ” great woman”, comparing her with countless former helpers and allies who recognized in their own testimony with house panel that they themselves did not believe Trump’s allegations of electoral fraud after the 2020 election.
Thomas said she “never spoke” with her husband about “any of legal challenges for the 2020 elections”, answering the ethical questions that were raised in after the decision of the Supreme Court last year on case related to January 6th. Thomas and Meadows have repeatedly written about the cancellation of the election results.
Democratic Rep. Benny Thompson, who presides over the committee, said Thomas did confirm during her testimony that she still believes the election was stolen, adding that “for now, we’re glad she came in”.
