Truce Violated by Two Parties in Sudan Conflict Hinders Aid Arrival

A Saudi-American statement released today, Sunday, said both sides of the conflict in Sudan violated the truce, which prevented the arrival of humanitarian aid, and used military aircraft and drones, indicative of a violation of the truce in Sudan, included the seizure of residential buildings, private companies and public buildings.

The statement indicated that snipers were under surveillance in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces and that units of the Sudanese army seized medical supplies at two sites, stressing that Saudi Arabia and America called on the two parties to the conflict in Sudan to extend the truce, despite the absence of a full its observance.

The text of the statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America reads:

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America, in their capacity as mediators in reaching an agreement between the Sudanese parties, indicate that five days after the short-term ceasefire came into effect, violations by both parties have occurred that have significantly hampered the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the restoration of essential services.

For example, in violation of the ban on air strikes and the use of military aircraft or drones, SAF military aircraft conducted daily flights during the ceasefire period, including a confirmed 27 May air strike in Khartoum that killed two people, and another air strike on the same day . , he damaged a press for printing Sudanese currency.

RSF incursions into residential areas continued, including the takeover of residences, private businesses, and public buildings. There have been confirmed incidents of looting of homes and businesses by the RSF in these areas.

Both sides launched attacks, moving troops, weapons and other resources.

For example, the Sudanese Armed Forces launched several attacks in the Sikkat el-Omle area, and the Rapid Support Forces deployed a large force to Jisr Halfaya, apparently in preparation for an impending attack on the Wadi Sedna airbase.

Both sides have told the mediators that they are committed to providing humanitarian assistance and restoring basic services for the benefit of the Sudanese people. However, the SLO and the Sudanese Armed Forces committed prohibited acts that hindered those efforts.

On May 26, aid workers attempting to gain access to hospitals and other infrastructure spotted snipers in USF-controlled territory.

On 24 May, units of the Sudanese Armed Forces seized medical supplies from two separate sites delivered at the same time.

On May 25, money, fuel and two vehicles were stolen from a humanitarian aid convoy, one in the area between the SAF and the SRS and the other in an area controlled by the SRS. Maintenance personnel did not have access to major infrastructure facilities to carry out repairs due to the presence of armed individuals at these facilities and heavy fighting in the vicinity. Both sides are set for further escalation.

The mediators believe that the cessation of SAF airstrikes, the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces from urban areas and the cessation of attacks on humanitarian organizations will make it easier to provide much-needed assistance to the Sudanese.

Recognizing that the current ceasefire is not being fully implemented, we urged both parties to agree to an extension, albeit not fully, to give humanitarian organizations more time to do this vital work.
