Unexpected Drop in Jobless Claims Highlights Labor Shortages
The number of Americans filing new jobless claims dropped unexpectedly last week, indicating continued labor shortages in some sectors of the market, even as job growth slows.
The Labor Department said Thursday that initial jobless claims fell by 12,000 jobs to 237,000 after seasonally adjusting for the week ended July 8.
Economists polled by Reuters had expected the number of lawsuits to reach 250,000 over the past week.
