The Health Benefits of Avocados: Boost Digestion, Control Weight, and Improve Heart Health

The Health Benefits of Avocados

Introduction

Avocados are rich in nutrients such as vitamin K, potassium, folic acid, and B vitamins. However, it is not recommended to overeat it, especially for those who are trying to maintain a normal weight.

Positive Effect on the Digestive System

Russian nutritionist Tatyana Semenova told Gazeta.Ru that one of the most important benefits of avocados is its positive effect on the digestive system.

She says: “Dietary fiber helps regulate appetite and boost immunity. Avocado contains soluble dietary fiber. It also helps normalize blood sugar levels, so eating it daily can help you feel full quickly, which helps control weight, and is especially important for people with metabolic syndrome.”

Benefits for the Heart

Avocados have a positive effect on the heart, as they contain a high percentage of potassium, which helps lower blood pressure.

“Avocado is a ‘natural’ antidepressant,” she says, “because it contains omega-3 fatty acids.” Therefore, adding it to the diet can reduce anxiety levels. Avocado contains in its composition another important component – oleic acid (omega-9). These fatty acids are the regulator of learning and memory processes in the brain. A sufficient amount of saturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids in the daily diet has an anti-cancer effect.”

Benefits for Eye Health

Avocados also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids that are important for eye health and are well absorbed due to their high fatty acid content.

She says, “However, despite these health benefits, avocados are not recommended to overeat, and we are especially referring to people who have to eat a certain amount of calories per day, since it is not recommended to eat more than two avocados per day.” Breastfeeding women should also eliminate it from their diet to prevent diarrhea in their babies.

According to her, people suffering from pancreatitis and thyroid diseases are forbidden to eat avocados unless a specialist determines their number. He also advises the person taking it for the first time to gradually eat a small piece to avoid an allergic reaction.
