Suburban hell: stations across the capital close due to severe flooding

London Passengers home are in rush hour from hell like half a dozen stations closed due to severe flooding.

Victoria station closed after passengers were seen wading through ankle-deep water after the sky opened. up on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Shortly after 3 p.m. today, the station colleagues in London, Victoria noticed flooding on main entrance, due to heavy rain with large volumes of running water down slope leading towards the east lobby.

“Some outlets and platforms had to close. Since then platforms 7 and 8 remain closed and 19 reopened. We work to remove the water and get everything back back to normal as soon as possible possible”.

Earls Court, Kentish Town, Turnkpike Lane and Loughton stations also closed due to flood for The Standard was informed by the representative of London (TfL).

Baker Street station was closed. for period, and Tottenham Hale is partially closed.

Meanwhile, a severe flash flood inundated main roads outside King’s Cross Station.

The King’s Cross Visitor Center reported that heavy rain “were having problems”. with illumination of King’s Cross and fountains at the Granary”.

Cars can be seen driving through the flood on Upper Street, Islingtons main Road.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged passengers to plan ahead.

“Spare parts of London and our transport network are currently experiencing disruption due to thunderstorms and flash floods. if you are need to travel, check your travel using TFL website or app,” he tweeted.

There are slight delays on Central, Elizavetinskaya and Yubileinaya lines and Ground communication. The central line and the elevated part are partially suspended due to flooding.

As thunderstorms hit the capital on Wednesday afternoon, the sky opened up, the streets quickly flooded.

This happened after the Met Office warned homes in the capital and the southeast are on risk of flooding after a recent drought.

Torrential downpours affected areas of The Met Office said southeast England, especially Essex, London and Surrey, will weaken tonight.

“Extremely heavy rains affected the areas of Chigwell, Woodford, Buckhurst Hill. of northeast London and southwest Essex, but will facilitate over in next hour.”

An amber thunderstorm warning was issued for most of Greater London while less austere yellow warning is in place through north-west of in city and the rest of southeast of England.

“Flood of homes and business is likely and can happen quickly, with damage to some buildings as a result of flooding, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds,” the Met Office said in a statement.

“Flash or deep flooding is possible, causing danger to life.”
