Sony’s CFO Hiroki Totoki first brought changes into the conversation. At the last conference call he described factors that mean that Sony cannot keep up with demand. Totoki said, “Semiconductor shortages are a factor. But there are also other factors that have an impact on the production volume. ”They want to exceed sales of 14.8 million in the second year. The predecessor had sold so many times in the same period. When asked how Sony intends to achieve this goal, he replied that they have the means to deal with the problem “by finding a secondary resource or by changing the design, for example”. The latter now seems to be coming true, because Digitimes reports that the suppliers are already preparing for the redesign.
Redesign should require fewer chips
Observer interpret Totoki’s statements in such a way that the development department has already found a way to shorten production times. Presumably the redesign has fewer semiconductors. The new edition could relax the demand situation and ennoble the first Playstation 5 buyers as owners of the first edition with more chips.
Housing design earned ridicule and criticism
In addition, all sorts of sides criticized its appearance when the next-gen console was presented. Even the creators of a dummy in a US Ikea branch couldn’t resist a swipe. The true-to-scale cardboard stand is emblazoned with the inscription: “Which Ikea shelf will my meme-like oversized game console fit?” Expedit shelf) from the Swedish furniture store. Some rebuilt the shelf. Hobby fans also designed new cases to give the Playstation water cooling and, last but not least, a new look. Should Sony redesign the interior, it would make sense to adapt the housing as well. The new edition may then also fit on the Kallax shelf.
