Six awarded death penalty in Lynching in Sri Lanka

LAHORE:

Anti-terrorist court in Lahore announced verdict in mob lynching of Sri Lankan citizen Priyanta Kumara on false accusations of blasphemy in Sialkot last December, award death penalty to six prime suspects on Monday.

Seven suspects were sentenced of life imprisonment and 76 other two years in prison everyone.

One suspect has been acquitted, Punjab prosecutors secretary Nadeem Sarwar said. in press conference in Lahore.

Priyanta, 49 years old.year-old Sri Lankan national was lynched by a mob of factory workers on December 3, 2021 where he worked manager.

BUT first information report (FIR) has been registered against hundreds of unidentified men, including workers of factory.

“Terrible Incident”

The nation was shell-shocked and outraged in December last year when Kumara was brutally lynched and his body was set on fire crowd in Sialkot. The heinous incident angered the nation both civilly and military the leaders denounced it as “appalling”, “shameful”, and “an extrajudicial vigilante”.

President Arif Alvi said that the avenger attack has nothing to do with religion and then prime minister Imran Khan promised that those responsible “will punished with in full severity of law”.

Heartbreaking Incident took place on Wazirabad Road Sialkot where workers of private mills savagely lynched Sri Lankan national Priyanth Kumar.

Many in crowd made no attempt to hide his identity and some took selfie in front of burning corpse. The police said that the terrible incident took place inside the factory premises and was not way of knowing about it until now.

When the police arrived at the scene, the victim was already tortured death and his body was set to fire. “The police really tried to prevent the mafia from establishing body on fire, but the strength of the rioters was overwhelming.” official added.

“Hero” praised

Malik Adnan, colleague who tried to save Kumara from the mafia, was awarded with certificate of gratitude to that time prime minister in confession of his courage to protect the victim at the risk of his own life.

Civil and military leadership of the country welcomed the moral courage and bravery of Adnan and announced rewarding him with Tamgha-e-Shujaat.
