GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Kent County Sheriff’s Office says Shots were fired Thursday night at a graduation ceremony at East Kentwood High School.
FOX 17 also talked with teacher who was there at the time who confirmed shots were fired.
According to Kent County Sheriff Michel Lajoy-Young, two white sedans were involved in the case. in a gun exchange with each other. Since then, the police have been investigating these who we in several cars.
Sheriff LaJoy-Young says two people was shot during the exchange.
She is says one it’s 40-year- an elderly woman from Grand Rapids who was shot in belly and wrists. Other 16-yearold man from Texas who was shot in wrist. “I suspect that they just completely bystanders who happened to be here at that time of This gun exchange,” Lajoy-Young said.
Sheriff LaJoy-Young says Both victims were taken to the hospital and of 21:45 Thursday, both of they were in stable state.
“I certainly concerned about the surge in violence and, again I’ll go back communities, keeping communities safe. We have to work together to bring these cases to resolution. We have to know what is this up every person in This community to keep each other safe,” Sheriff Lajoy-Young said.

By Thursday evening most of the high school car park near the stadium was sealed off off.
Kentwood Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Paulston released a statement saying the shooting occurred after the graduation ceremony of Crossroads Alternative High School.

Sheriff LaJoy-Young added”BUT celebration like that’s what brings family together, doing us feel closer like community with pride of our young people and what they are looking for.
“It’s very hard to happen in This community in this moment of celebration.”
sheriff says her office knows of at least two shooters and, as of 22:00 Thursday, these suspects are still on free.
“I want in community be on the lookout for these potential suspects tonight. We do not have reason believe they will come back in area or that they have a specific purpose back in This area.
“This stage is safe now, but of Of course, until we get this matter resolved, I can’t be sure. on what are their intentions,” Sheriff Lajoy-Young said.
