Evacuations Ordered in Quebec

Canadian authorities have evacuated the northern province of Quebec’s largest city as firefighters worked to combat the threat of uncontrolled fires in remote communities in the province’s northern and northwestern regions. There were more than 150 wildfires on Tuesday, including more than 110 that were thought to be out of control, according to the provincial wildfire agency. Residents as far away as New York and New England have felt the effects of hundreds of wildfires in Quebec, leaving them with sore throats.

Evacuation Order for Chipogamao

On Tuesday, authorities issued an evacuation order for the Quebec city of Chipogamao, a city of about 7,500 people in a remote part of the province. Authorities said the evacuation was ongoing and promised to provide more details on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Monitoring Situation Hour by Hour

“Of course, we are monitoring the situation hour by hour. If we look at the situation in Quebec as a whole, in many places the situation is still worrying,” Prime Minister Francois Legault told reporters.
