Worldwide, AMD’s processors in the Ryzen 5000 generation have become a bit cheaper. For the first time since their launch, the CPUs are readily available below the target price; most likely this is due to the imminent arrival of new Intel processors.
The lower rates were noted by Overclock3D in the UK, but the trend appears to be a global phenomenon. On various (international) webshops, the Ryzen 5000 CPUs are quickly ten percent below their respective suggested retail price. The graph below shows the price trend of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X at the German online store Geizhals . Since June, the budget processor has invariably been available below the target price of 299 euros, with dips far below that increasingly often. Geizhals sometimes offered the cpu for 236 euros.
In the Benelux it seems slow down that price reduction, but the first steps are noticeable. AMD’s top model, the Ryzen 9 5950X, turns out to be five tens cheaper at many webshops than the recommended 799 euros. Since October last year, the CPU was rarely available for the target price at all.
The falling prices are most likely due to the arrival of Intel’s Alder Lake-S processors. The twelfth generation Intel Core processors has no official release date yet, but is expected to be “late 2021”. Last week, some retailers already leaked prices of Alder Lake-S CPUs, suggesting an official reveal is imminent. Intel itself is still tight-lipped, but retailers are apparently already anticipating some competition for AMD’s popular processors.
