The families of the detainees demonstrated in the capital, Nouakchott, demanding that the authorities put pressure on neighboring Mali to release them, despite concerns about their fate and the ongoing loss of contact with them.
Previous Incident
A joint patrol of the Russian Wagner group and the Malian army arrested last March 30 Mauritanians involved in the trade and breeding of camels in a grazing area on the border of northern Mali and eastern Mauritania, liquidated them and burned their bodies. before burying the rest in a mass grave, which caused widespread outrage.
Mali apologized for the heinous crime, sent foreign and defense ministers and said it had formed a committee to investigate the circumstances of the tragic incident.
