On Monday, the RIA agency reported, citing an analysis of Central Bank data, that foreign investors who left Russia after selling their businesses between March 2022 and the same month of 2023 withdrew about $36 billion from the country.
Dozens of the world’s largest companies left or wound up their activities in Russia after Russia launched hostilities in Ukraine in February 2022.
Last week, the central bank downplayed the impact of foreign companies leaving, saying that there were about 200 buy-sell transactions between March 2022 and the same month in 2023.
According to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the sale of large assets, exceeding $100 million, accounts for only about 20% of these transactions.
