Robots are working on Australia’s first fully automated farm

Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Australia has announced plans to create a “hands-free” smart farm where robots will do all the work. There is no need for human labor.

The challenge is that most of the food we eat comes from farms, and as the population grows, so does the amount of food we need to eat. However, there is a lot of work to be done around a farm and many farmers have trouble finding people for these tasks. Labor shortages are a chronic problem in the economies of the developed world.

The idea is that robots and artificial intelligence can help eliminate labor shortages by literally taking over jobs that people used to do. Technology can help farmers optimize their operations, allowing them to produce as much food as possible on their land.

“It doesn’t take many years and technology lifts farmers off the land and immerses them. them into the worlds of robotics, automation and artificial intelligence, “predicted Richard Norton, CEO of the Food Agility Research Center.

The development of the smart farm is intended to show how these technologies can help farmers. CSU and Food Agility worked together to create Global Digital Farm (GDF). The smart farm will be built on the Wagga Wagga campus of the CSU and will include autonomous tractors, harvesters and other agricultural robots, as well as artificial intelligence programs to help farm management and more.

GDF is not only intended to it is designed to show what a smart farm can look like. CSU and Food Agility want to use it to teach Australian farmers how to reap the benefits of the technology presented.

“This ambitious and unique project will equip the Australian workforce with knowledge and skills in key areas. technologies such as data analysis, GIS mapping, remote sensing, machine learning and cyber security, “said Niall Blair, CSU Professor of Sustainable Food Production.
