ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said the government has zero tolerance for terrorists and rapid persecution is required to set an example out of terrorist elements.
Chair a meeting of the Apex Committee on National action plan on Monday, the prime minister stressed that a multi-pronged approach, full spectrum and vigorous implementation of NAP is required to counter the threat of terrorism.
He emphasized taking proactive measures to deal with such incidents in future. He expressed the belief that nefarious projects to destabilize the country will never be successful as the whole nation is united to defeat the menace of terrorism.
He said the public he realizes that some elements are trying to create disharmony on the base of sectarianism and hate speech, but the state never will allow such projects to be successful.
The Apex Committee strongly condemned Peshawar attack and offered condolences for the martyrs who they lost their lives in the attack. He pointed out the need to strengthen the role of National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) to coordinate essential measures for fight against terrorism and capacity building of anti-terrorism departments.
Era also pointed out that the provinces need to allocate more resources for conduct effective investigations by adopting scientific techniques and settings up modern forensic laboratories. The need put an end to cases of terrorism in law courts of the law was underlined.
The secretary interior presented a detailed briefing on the state of implementation of NAP, including measures taken to choke terror funding, countering violent extremism, investigations and prosecutions of cases of terrorism.
The secretary also informed the meeting on the government’S zero-tolerance policy towards militancy, capacity building of law enforcement, regulation and registration of seminars, fusion of former FATA areas, reforms in the criminal justice system the elimination of sectarian terrorism, the containment of smuggling, drug trafficking and human trafficking, the reconciliation process in Balochistan and refugee issues.
The meeting was informed that satisfactory implementation has been achieved on majority action points; However, support by provincial governments is required for interprovincial matters.
