PTA instructs telcos to penalize items if user data is shared with advertisers without permission

Chapter of Prime Minister Salman Sufi’s Strategic Reforms announced on On Friday, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) instructed telecommunications companies to penalize elements that provide mobile phone user data to advertising companies without permission.

On Twitter, Sufi said that the PTA implements “optimalin and op-out system” for mobile phone users.

“With reference to the op-out in the end of Each marketing message the client will be able to deliver to himself on block of SMS marketing list of this particular marketer,” Sufi said.

He added that telecommunications companies were instructed to impose fines for sharing data of citizens without consent and said that advertising marketing is carried out using alphanumeric identifiers and their regularization. against shortcodes will be ready by June.

“Unsubscribe option located made required for all communications related to marketing,” Sufi said, adding that government will take live feedback from customers in consumer conference to be held in July 2022.
