Prison for “despicable” couple who dead taxi driver after he asked them to stop eating

Two “drunk boors” who kicked a taxi driver to death after he asked them to stop eating food in his car were imprisoned.

20-year-old Connor McPartland and 18-year-old Martin Tracy repeatedly punched and kicked 39-year-old Ali Asghar. in “fierce, cruel and utterly unforgiving attackā€ on October 30.

The couple were outraged after he took them to wrong address, although they themselves entered it into the Uber app, they told the court.

Manchester Crown Court heard the couple ordered Uber to meet with some people at the nightclub Ko-Ko Lounge in Rochdale. But McPartland entered the address for Grill house and Coco desserts, also in Rochdale, to the app.

Mr. Asghar asked them to stop eating cheeseburgers and chips. in in car and when he explained that they had entered wrong contacting Uber, they attacked him.

Prosecutor Gale Gozem said the taxi arrived at the address and stopped in front of the Shell gas station shortly after 4 am.

The Court heard Mr Asghar open the rear passenger door to let the passengers out when the “violent argument” broke out out.

The couple went to attack which ended in Mr. Asgar is pushed over by cracking him head and crushed his skull. They kicked him in in head as he lay defenseless on at the floor the court heard.

Another taxi driver, Mohammad Khalid, saw Mr. Asghar being confronted and tried reason with two men. He then retreated to his taxi, fearing that also get attacked and call the police.

Mr. Asghar died two weeks later in hospital after suffering head injury in attack. McPartland and Tracy, both of Oldham, denied murder but were found guilty after a nine-day trial.

They were imprisoned for 14 years old, six months and 13 years six months respectively on Monday

In sentencing the couple, Judge Alan Conrad QC praised Mr Khalid’s bravery and branded the killers “a couple of of drunken and titled boors.”

He said they had a life of their own, but said it was nothing compared to the damage he had done. caused Mr Asgar family. He added: “It was wild and prolonged attack. Both of you lied about your involvement and sought to minimize what you did.”

In a statement released by the police, Mr. Asghar family said he was loving and devoted son, brother and friend who will be bored forever.

The statement said: “On behalf of of his family we will like express my sincere gratitude to the police officers, lawyer, judge, jury and everyone involved who helped our Ali get justice for what happened to him.

“A huge heart felt grateful to everyone.”

Speaking after the verdict senior Investigator Phil Reid welcomed the verdict, saying: “Senseless actions of Tracey and McPartland behaved extremely disgustingly that morning and led to family lose a loved one son and brother.

“These two men clearly prone to violence, and I’m glad that now they off our streets and we have time to think about our actions and grievances and sorrow they have caused.

ā€œThe judge today praised the taxi driver for his actions in trying to save Ali’s life and I would also like thank him for his courage.”
