Oracle has promised to shift its operations across the globe to completely renewable energy

Oracle has announced that it intends to maintain its global operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2025. This commitment covers both its facilities and cloud operations and builds on the sustainability priorities the company has previously committed to, including achieving 100 percent renewable energy in all “next generation” Oracle Cloud regions by 2025.

Oracle’s European Cloud regions are already 100 percent renewable energy and the company reports that 51 offices worldwide use fully renewable energy.

“Relying on renewable energy is an important step towards a more sustainable future Oracle will always have the greatest impact on the environment by delivering technology to its customers that can reduce their carbon footprint, but this new goal reflects the shared values of our customers, partners and investors, “said Safra Catz, CEO of the company.

Oracle has made sustainability promises in the past. For example, it committed to reducing e-waste, noting that it had collected £ 2.5 million of scrapped hardware in the 2020 financial year, 99.6 per cent of which was either reused or recycled. It also announces that it has reduced the amount of waste going to landfills from Oracle-owned buildings by 25 per cent per square meter since 2015.

It also expects responsibility from its suppliers, ie by 2025 all suppliers must have environmental protection.

“Sustainability is not a slogan at Oracle. It is a coordinated, ongoing, enterprise-wide effort to do our utmost to protect natural resources, minimize adverse environmental impacts, and create a more sustainable future.
