Intel’s upcoming generation of graphics cards has once again surfaced in online benchmarks. Geekbench shows results of a system with a discrete Intel Xe Graphics video card — presumably a desktop card under the yet-to-be-revealed DG2 banner.
The video card (preventively renamed the Intel Xe- HPG DG2-128EU) has 128 execution units and a clock speed of 2.2 GHz. In terms of VRAM, this model would have approximately 5 GB of memory, which indicates that this is most likely not Intel’s top model for the gaming sector. The Generation DG1 of Intel Xe Graphics shipped as a discrete video card as well, but was clearly not aimed at gamers. Intel’s first series of separate GPUs was built for efficient production; the majority of the cards are cooled completely passively. With DG2, Intel has indicated that it also wants to appeal to gamers, both in laptops and desktops.
The newly found benchmark does not necessarily paint the best picture for Intel. With 13710 points in Geekbench V5 (OpenCL), this DG2 GPU is in the same field as Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 660 Ti or AMD’s Radeon RX 550. Those aren’t exactly the latest GPUs — while Intel is also ahead in terms of specifications.
The benchmark may have been completed on a ‘crippled’ prototype of the GPU, as is often the case with benchmarks leaking before the hardware reveal . For example, the wattage can be severely limited or the test may be completed without (adequate) cooling. Intel is currently expected to upgrade the DG2 GPU series. and video cards around CES 2022 to officially reveal. Meanwhile, Intel is also expanding the Xe Graphics banner with High Power Computing products (HPC) for server and cloud purposes.
