NAB chairman resigns after ‘refusing to target’ Imran

calls PTI.group of 22 ‘civil servants, posted Punjab Interim Administration to “distance ourselves” by DPM government

ISLAMABAD: Aftab Sultan, Chairman of The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) resigned from his position, reportedly after refusing to comply with Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government who allegedly asked him arrest former prime minister Imran Khan.

Sultan, and former director-general of The Intelligence Bureau was assigned to post in July of last year for “non-renewable period” of three years, but came to a quarrel with certain quarters of the state apparatus that caused his departure.

According to Geo News, the Sultan was asked perform “definite [tasks] which were unacceptable to me”, after which he submitted his resignation prime minister.

“I told them I can’t go on with conditions. My resignation has been accepted and it’s coming to an end. on a positive note,” Sultan said, according to Geo News. ” prime minister expressed good wishes for I and I also have good wishes for to him.”

Separately, a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the Sultan had submitted his resignation to Shehbaz Sharif, citing personal reasons.

PROFILE

Sultan, who belongs to the fourth police common, served as chairman of the IB three times, most recently between June 2013 and April 2018, and before that he remained head of Punjab police from April to May 2013

In February 2018, Khan accused him of aid to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in selection of candidates for V general elections.

Sultan, as Khan said, was a “member” of Sharif family”gangs”, that’s why he was given an extension of service for the third time. He claimed that the PML-N leadership ordered the IB leader to “carefully observe” which of the PML-N candidates could win their constituencies.

Interestingly, at that time of appointment, the Sultan himself was a suspect in link to what’s dirty money watchdog approved in 2020 against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for “illegal” purchase of 73 high security vehicles for security of foreign dignitaries.

Suspects are accused of favoritism and illegal use of vehicles causing damage of over Rs 1.952 million national Treasury Department.
