ISLAMABAD: speaker of National Assembly Assad Qaiser on Wednesday wrote letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan and leader of opposition Shahbaz Sharif for appointment of caretaker prime minister.
The Speaker wrote these letters in accordance with the authority granted to him under section 224A-1. of Constitution.
Names of four members were requested from both leaders for formation of parliamentary committee.
Earlier this week, President Arif Alvi sent letters to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Shahbaz Sharif to seek proposals. for appointment of caretaker prime minister for Pakistan; however, both leaders failed to reach a consensus.
According to N.A. rules, in if two politicians fail to reach a consensus over one name for three days each one of they will send two names to the parliamentary committee responsible for appointment of a caretaker prime minister.

An eight-member Parliamentary Committee, which includes members of the National Assembly and the Senate, with equal representation from government and the opposition is formed by the speaker of the National Assembly.
“224A (1) In the event that the prime minister and the leader of opposition in the outgoing National Assembly disagree on any person appointed as a guardian prime minister within three days of dissolution of National Assembly, they must forward two nominees each to the committee, to be immediately appointed speaker of National Assembly, consisting of eight members of the outgoing National Assembly, or the Senate, or both, having equal representation from the Treasury and the opposition, shall be appointed by the Prime Minister and Leader of opposition, respectively,” Kaiser wrote. in letter.
Shahbaz will now nominate four members from the opposition, while Prime Minister Imran Khan will nominate the same number. of members from the treasury benches.
Shahbaz disagrees with Prime Minister Khan’s proposal
Meanwhile, Shahbaz briefed President Alvi that the opposition does not agree with sentence of appointment of Judge (retired) Gulzar Ahmed interim prime minister and that process for appointment issued head of the state was a “violation of Law and Constitution”.
In a letter, Shahbaz confirmed to the president that he had received his message of April 4 regarding the appointment of caretaker prime minister.
