Medvedev’s Working Visit to Vietnam Begins

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev arrived on a working visit to Vietnam, where on Monday, May 22, he will hold a series of meetings with the Vietnamese leadership.

According to Medvedev’s office, the program of the visit will be very busy, as Medvedev will meet with Vietnamese President Phu Van Tung and Prime Minister Pham Minh Tinh.

He will also hold talks with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Chong Thi Mai. He will lay wreaths at the Monument to the Fallen Heroes and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi.

During Medvedev’s meetings with the Vietnamese leadership, he will raise issues of regional cooperation and discuss the situation in Ukraine, paying special attention to expanding trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, restoring it to its previous level before the imposition of Western sanctions against Russia.

During the talks, a general assessment of Russian-Vietnamese relations is expected, as well as a political and biased dialogue between the parties.

In this regard, the Russian side expects to deepen relations between the parties at the bilateral level and in multilateral formats (Russia – ASEAN, the International Conference of Asian Political Parties) and hopes that Vietnam will join the organizing committee of the “Forum Supporters of Combating Modern Practices of Neo-Colonialism”.
