The unique model designed by McLaren Special Operations boasts an exterior decoration that took 12 weeks to be designed
With the end of the production of only 106 units of the Speedtail hypersports unit, the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has now unveiled a very special copy, commissioned by the official dealership of the brand in Beverly Hills, USA.
It was nicknamed Albert, as were the first prototypes of the McLaren F1 from 1992, for having been designed at the Albert Drive facility in Woking, England, and intends to pay homage to the first Speedtail to be tested on the open road in 2018. A reflection of this is the complex exterior paintwork, inspired by camouflage used in this testing phase, so that the new McLaren model would pass unnoticed (if possible!) to the most curious eyes.
The process of elaborating the exterior decoration of the Albert Speedtail te ve a total duration of 12 weeks and went through different phases. Inspired by the lines that represent the airflow idealized for the bodywork, used to “mask” the first Speedtail prototype, the Albert now presented is painted in “Silver Magnesium” – the color of the McLaren F1 when it was first revealed on the Grande 1992 Monaco Award – and “Cinzento Ueno”, the color of the F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.
Elaborated by the McLaren Production Center (MPC) team, the painting of the new Albert initially went through a testing phase, to understand the feasibility of the process, and digital rendering for fine tuning. all the details. It took two weeks to create and apply paint masks to the fully assembled automobile (in order to ensure the perfect transition of lines between panels), six weeks for the actual painting after disassembly, and the remaining time for drying and to reassemble the panels to the bodywork. The final phase of the process was the application of a transparent layer with everything in place.
Remember that the Speedtail is equipped with a hybrid engine of 1,070 horsepower and reaches a maximum speed of 402 km/h, which makes it the fastest road McLaren ever.
