After a regular police patrol on On Friday the police caught down on Kingston Bridge around 22:30 to intervene in verbal altercation involving a man and a woman who were known to each other.
Scotland Yard has filed charges of theft was made and the police were in process of arresting the man as he entered the water. He was not put in handcuffs, etc. force added.
Metropolitan Naval Police Unit, National Police Air Service, London fire brigade and RNLI were involved in search to find a person.
He was removed from the water around 12:30. on Saturday and paramedic treatment, but it was announced dead on the stage.
police cordon remains in place as the investigation continues and the man family were informed.
The Metropolitan announced that its directorate of professional standards made contacting the independent office for Police behavior. The IOPC is conducting an independent investigation.
Lawrence Taylor, Deputy Assistant Commissioner with The Metropolitan said: “My thoughts and those of Metropolitan Police Service, with friends and family of that man who Unfortunately, he died after this incident.
“I fully appreciate public will be very concerned. We of well share it’s anxiety. Metropolitan Directorate of professional standards made immediate contact with the Independent Office for Police behavior as it is protocol in any incident in to which a person harms after contacting the police.
“We will be completely support IOPC investigation”.
