Head of Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce: Iraq Pays $10 Billion in Iranian Contributions
The Payment of Contributions
The head of the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce, Yahya al-Ishaq, said today, Monday, that Iraq has paid all Iranian contributions of $10 billion.
The head of the Chamber of Commerce added in statements released by the Islamic Republic’s IRNA News Agency that these amounts were deposited with the Iraqi Trade Bank after it was agreed that these amounts would be spent on the purchase of goods that were not subject to the embargo imposed by against Iran.
Al-Ishaq expressed hope that the volume of joint trade between Iran and Iraq will grow to $20 billion in the next few years, the Arab World News Agency reported.
Debt Payment Agreement
A senior Iraqi foreign ministry official announced that his country had agreed to pay about $2.76 billion worth of gas and electricity debts to Iran after being released from US sanctions.
