BANGKOK, May 20 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended as a special guest at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi donated by India at a ceremony in the atomic-bombed city in 1945 on Saturday morning.
The prime minister wrote about this on his Twitter account.
Narendra Modi wrote: “Unlocking the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. This bust in Hiroshima carries a very important message. Gandhi’s ideals of peace and harmony resonate across the world and give strength to millions of people.”
A bust of Gandhi, 1 meter 6 centimeters high, is installed on a pedestal in a park near the world-famous “Atomic Dome”, which is part of the Peace Memorial, located near the epicenter of the 1945 atomic explosion.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Japan, Member of Parliament Nakatani Jin, Mayor of Hiroshima Kazumi Matsui and other city officials, as well as members of Parliament from Hiroshima and representatives of the Indian diaspora in Japan.
