LAHORE: Anti-Terrorism Court Issues Combined Sentence of 33 years in prison Head of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) Hafiz Muhammad Said on Friday in two cases of terror funding registered by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar awarded down guilty verdict in two FIRs from 2019 under various sections of Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) of 1997.
AT one of case, the judge awarded five-year imprisonment under sections 11-H(2), 11-I, 11-J(2) and 18 months jail under section 11-F(2) of ATA.
In another case, the judge awarded fiveyear sentence to each under sections 11-N, 11-I, 11-J(2) and 18 months jail term under section 11-F(6) of ATA.
The referee imposed a collective penalty of 340,000 rupees on Hafiz Said in both cases.
All offers will be run simultaneously.
Judge Ejaz Buttar noted that the prosecution has established charges of terror financing against head of DD and his role in fundraising for terrorist activity.
“Evidence presented by the prosecution against Hafiz Saeed and Al-Dawatul Irshad, a banned organization, were tangible and persuasive.”
Multiple Leaders of JuD including Hafiz Saeed, already under detention since July 2019. They were condemned on the basis of FIR registered by CTD on accusations of terror financing. Trial in several others are under consideration.
CTD has registered 41 FIRs. against JuD leaders in different cities. At the moment, the courts of first instance have considered 27 cases.
