The French Ministry of the Interior announced today, Monday, the killing of a Christian cleric in the west of the country.
French media added that a man turned himself in to the police station in a town 10 km from the crime scene, saying that he had “killed a cleric.”
She added that this person was under judicial supervision following the investigation into a fire that broke out in a cathedral in Nantes in July 2020.
For his part, the Minister of the Interior, Gerard Darmanin, announced that he was heading to the town, where the priest was found dead.
While reports indicated that the accused was a man from Rwanda, Darmanin said that “it was not possible to deport this foreign person (in reference to the priest’s murderer) despite the issuance of an order to do so, as long as the judicial control was not removed from him.”
The man accused of the Nantes cathedral fire is reported to be a Rwandan man known only by his first name, “Emmanuel”.
“Emmanuel” was imprisoned for several months during the investigation into the fire, which is still ongoing, and after his release last June, he was received by A group of priests in western Persia, to which the murdered priest belongs today.
“Emmanuel” is undergoing psychotherapy in a clinic in France.
