Moscow, May 17 – Politico, citing sources, writes that the EU is unlikely to include in the eleventh package of sanctions against Russia a ban on importing gas through pipelines from the Russian Federation, and this idea does not find any support in Brussels.
Earlier, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the eleventh new package of EU sanctions against Russia will focus on countering the circumvention of existing restrictions. According to it, European Union countries may prohibit the export of a number of goods to third countries if they are suspected of participating in circumventing sanctions against the Russian Federation. At the same time, the European Union has repeatedly stated that, unlike the United States, the European Union does not want to use extraterritorial sanctions.
“From what I’ve heard, it’s very unlikely that this will pass… Too much resistance from countries that depend on the remaining gas… The eleventh package of sanctions is almost ready, and introducing this important measure at the moment won’t work,” said an unnamed European diplomat. His name is Politico.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that its country will deal with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on Russia several years ago and is still increasing. Moscow indicated that the West lacked the courage to admit the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In the same Western countries, opinions have been heard more than once that sanctions against Russia are ineffective. Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and that the sanctions dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is the deterioration of the lives of millions of people.
