Endangered whale shark caught and sold in Pakistan

KARACHI: A 20-foot whale shark, a protected species, was caught by fishermen at sea and later sold in Ibrahim Haideri.

Hunting, marketing and trade of whale sharks are the largest living fish in in world today – banned under the fishing laws of Sindh and Balochistan.

“It is very sad that the fishermen killed him. They are should be punished by law,” said Mohammad Moazzam Khan, technical adviser on marine resources in the World Fund for Nature-Pakistan, highlighting need for creating fishermen’s awareness of the importance of fish.
