Economic difficulties will continue until September – Miftah Ismail

KARACHI: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said on Saturday that Pakistan’s economic difficulties will continue until September, but expressed hope of revival economy after receiving a loan from global institutions and friendly countries.

At a press conference after meeting with the Karachi Chamber of Commercial and industrial (KCCI), finance minister said that coalition government took a hard decisions — cutting subsidies and expansion of the tax base – after entry into power – and apologized to the businessmen for It. “We will face difficulties until September. You will have to pay your share of tax no matter what, and I’m sorry for Everyone has difficulties, but my main goal is to save the country from default,” Miftah said.

Finance minister said that economy is moving in right direction thanks to “prudent policy” of in government as well as steps taken to stabilize it.

In the meantime, the delegation of business leaders of Karachi with the assistance of the leaders of the Pakistani movement Muttahida Qaumi met Minister of Finance Miftah Ismail at the State Bank of Pakistan and held successful negotiations.

On this occasion, the deputy convener of the DMK-P and former Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, Federal Minister of Ports and Shipping Faisal Sabzwari and MQM-P Coordinating Committee Khalid Sultan were also gift. The businessmen included Sharjil Gopalani, Jamil Paracha, Rizwan Irfan, Muhammad Ahmed Shamsi, Wakas Azim, Salim Memon and Amin Memon.

Suggestions and complaints were submitted to Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, in which Sharjil Gopalani called for immediate removal of unfair fixed sales tax in accounts and need to remove the condition of I-shape in import and provision of foreign currency to banks for immediate cleaning of imported goods.

Mohammad Ahmed Shamsi requested that instead of targeting only traders, all types of income tax should be imposed and enforced by a tax should excluded from electricity bills.

However, Federal Minister of Finance Miftah Ismail assured that he would eliminate all discontent. of traders and remove disputed fixed sales tax retailers from electricity bills immediately. He said electricity bills would be sent without sales tax for three months, and after that there will be a meeting with businessmen to bring new taxpayers to the tax net and change taxes.
