E-Crossover BZ4X: Toyota's first pure electric car is expected to travel 500 kilometers

At the Shanghai Auto auto show in April, Toyota showed its electric car premiere in a prototype version. After the world’s largest carmaker (in terms of sales and deliveries) had previously relied on hybrid and hydrogen cars, the first pure electric car is now coming onto the market under the Toyota brand. There is already a Lexus e-SUV. As the Japanese company announced on Friday, the BZ4X should roll off the assembly line from mid-2022.

Toyota BZ4X: Up to 500 kilometers range

The BZ4X – the “BZ” stands for the sub-brand and the climate program “Beyond Zero”, with which Toyota wants to become CO2-neutral by 2050 – is reminiscent of its design something about the hybrid SUV RAV4. Toyota developed the electric car together with Subaru. It is based on the E-TNGA electric car platform. A 71.4 kilowatt hour battery is installed in the Toyota BZ4X. The car manufacturer specifies the range at 450 to 500 kilometers (according to WLTC).

According to Toyota calculations, an optional solar roof should add around 1,800 kilometers of range over the year. Thanks to the quick charging function (up to 150 kilowatts), the battery should be able to be charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes. Incidentally, Toyota grants a ten-year guarantee on the battery, the performance of which should not drop below 90 percent during this period, as Golem writes.

In 8.4 or 7.7 seconds from zero to 100

The 150 kilowatt (204 hp) electric motor in the basic version of the BZ4X with front-wheel drive ensures a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The vehicle accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.4 seconds. The all-wheel drive version with two 80-kilowatt motors can go from zero to 100 in 7.7 seconds.

The BZ4X you should be able to pre-order in Germany from December – then Toyota is planning the European premiere. The Japanese car company has not yet commented on the price. The forecasts range from around 40,000 to 45,000 euros. The Toyota Hybrid RAV4 in the Business Edition costs just under 40,000 euros.
